1 large (200g) onion, peeled and diced
1 large (200g) carrot, peeled and diced
1 tbsp of minced garlic
1kg raw mince (ground meat) i used beef but often use turkey
60ml (3 tablespoons) tomato paste
12g (1 tablespoon) plain flour
250ml (1 cup) chicken stock
40ml (2 tablespoons) Worcestershire sauce
400g canned crushed tomatoes
Salt and pepper to taste
128g (1 cup) frozen peas
head of cauli (or you can use potato)
2tbsp garlic butter
handful of cheese (optional)
spray frypan with oil, put on medium heat. Add onion, carrot and garlic to pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, or until vegetables have softened.
add mince to the vegetables. Cook, stirring and mashing mince, until the mince has changed colour and most of the liquid has evaporated.
add tomato paste and flour to meat mixture and cook, stirring constantly, for about a minute.
Add stock, Worcestershire sauce, crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper.
Reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until liquid has reduced (about 15 to 20 minutes).
Add in peas when cooling
Cook cauli (or potatoes) while the meat mixture is cooking.
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
Prepare caul (or potatos)
Stem cauli / potatos until tender
if using cauli, place in a food processor with garlic butter and process until fluffy consistancy
if using potato, mash (or place in food processor) with garlic butter and mash/process until fluffy consistancy
now you can put all your meat in one baking tray, i opted to make several smaller individual meals as you can see
fill containers till about three quarters full with minced mixture. Add cauli / potato on the top (i used cauli), it always works great if you use a fork and rough up the top a bit by drawing the fork along the top
Add cheese to suit
place in the oven and cook until golden crispy brown on the top
