So what can we do to help ourselves and our families?
- Control the food in the home.... if you buy snack foods you will eat them!! So don't buy them.....simple!
- control how much we eat... use a smaller plate, this will limit the quantity you can put on it, but the plate will still look full....just don't have seconds!!!
- move more ...do some physical activity....even walking
How do we steer clear of all that sugar?
- get rid of all the sugar drinks in the house, INCLUDING fruit juice and don't buy any more........... forget diet drinks, they are not any better!
- eat your carbs with fibre to keep your blood sugar levels low........... check the labels and look for foods with 3 grams of dietary fibre or greater!
- wait 20 minutes before either having seconds or a 2nd course....... there is 22 feet of intestine for your food to travel to get to where the hormone is released to tell your brain you are full!
- don't let your kids sit in front of the tv all day.......kids need exercise , (as do we all) reward TV or computer time with 30 minutes of physical activity for 30 minutes of TV etc.
